In this month's newsletter, we comment on the recent multi-million dollar resolution agreements announced by the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) and what they signal with regard to compliance with the HIPAA Security Rule. Related to this issue, we share our HIPAA Security Risk Analysis Self-Review, a complimentary tool you can use to gauge where your organization stands with respect to meeting OCR requirements. We also highlight next week's web event on Patient Safety & Cyber Risk, featuring our own Bob Chaput, and other upcoming programs that hit on key concerns like cloud security and how to plan for the future of telehealth. Links to recent articles of note from around the industry are included as well.
New Multi-Million Settlements Re-Affirm Risk Analysis and Risk Management as OCR Priorities
Recent multi-million dollar enforcement actions by the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) re-affirm what OCR has been communicating for years – it will continue to prioritize enforcement of covered entities’ and business associates’ compliance with the risk analysis and risk management requirements of the HIPAA Security Rule. Healthcare organizations should take stock and assess their risk analysis and risk management processes, and if they do not meet OCR’s expectations and industry best practices, take appropriate action now to address these deficiencies.
See below for a list of upcoming virtual educational sessions designed to provide clarity on key risk and compliance challenges and opportunities facing healthcare organizations.

Patient Safety & Cyber Risk
Recent news has reminded us that cybersecurity is a patient safety concern. Clearwater Founder and Executive Chairman Bob Chaput addresses this important topic in his forthcoming book Stop the Cyber Bleeding.
As a precursor to the book's publication, Bob will be joined by Benoit Desjardins, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of radiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and a leading researcher on the subject of medical imaging security, for a discussion of patient safety and cyber risk.
